Reports about BTS member Suga’s involvement in a driving under the influence (DUI) incident have been circulating widely in South Korea, sparking concern and speculation. Despite the headlines and rumors, it appears that the speculations surrounding his withdrawal from BTS are untrue.
On August 9, 2024 (KST), local media reported that Suga’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at 0.227%, which is significantly higher than the legal limit. The Yongsan Police confirmed that the electric scooter he was riding is classified as a “motorized bicycle,” meaning Suga could face a criminal investigation similar to that of a DUI involving a car.
These developments led to widespread speculation about the future of Suga’s career, with some suggesting that he might have to leave BTS. However, on August 10, 2024 (KST), reports emerged dismissing these rumors. According to Sports Chosun, Suga is deeply reflecting on the incident, but there are no discussions about him withdrawing from BTS.
Sources indicate that while Suga is taking the situation seriously, the strong bond and dynamic within BTS make any extreme measures, such as his withdrawal, unlikely. The group’s unity and the support from their management have been emphasized as crucial factors in navigating this challenging time.
Furthermore, the much-anticipated BTS comeback in 2025, following the members’ discharge from military service, is not expected to be delayed. Despite the current challenges facing HYBE, the agency behind BTS, the group’s full return in 2025 remains on track.
